Spenborough Swimming Pool,
Hello from all the members and volunteers of Spenborough Swimming Club. We hope that you will take a minute to read about us, our history and the wonderful work we do to help the children of Spen Valley be safe in water, stay fit and healthy and achieve their potential and be the best they can be.
The club was formed in 1890 and this year we celebrate our 125th Anniversary. The club started off at the Public Baths on Tofts Road, the site where Tesco now stands before moving to Spenborough Swimming Pool in 1969.
Throughout the last 125 years the club has gone through its ups and downs but down to a fantastic and dedicated team of volunteers our membership is increasing. The club aims to promote the sport of swimming for the benefit of children in and around the Spen Valley area. We are committed to providing safe, effective and quality coaching of the highest standard. In fact in 2015 we achieved “SWIM 21” status from the Amateur Swimming Association. This accreditation ensures and recognises that we are committed to providing safe, effective and quality coaching to our swimmers.
We pride ourselves on being self-funded and are extremely grateful for any donations or sponsorship. However, we recognise that we can also give something back to the community and in recent years have raised funds for Hollybank Trust and more recently Kidney Research UK.
As well as teaching children to swim we have had success in many of the swimming gala’s we enter throughout Yorkshire and we have even produced the odd GB swimmer.
Spenborough Swimming Club would be grateful for any votes made in our favour and any monies raised will be used towards keeping the club going for hopefully another 125 years.
